Collagen Cream has been a life saver or well at least a skin saver for me. KitchenAid Mixer

To be honest, I fell head over heals for an advertisement I saw in a magazine for a KitchenAid Mixer about 10 years ago. It was a very simple ad with a photo of a beautiful kitchen, and somehow the way the picture was taken the Kitchenaid Mixer sitting on the counter jumped out at you. The ad simply said something like, “Nothing else says “A Good Cook Lives Here” like a Kitchenaid Mixer on your counter-top”, or something to that effect anyway. I hate to admit it, and you can call me vein if you wish, but I love to cook, and I love to recieve compliments about my cooking. I found the ad interesting because it was so true. Whenever I visit someone’s house and see a Kitchenaid Mixer on the counter I know right away that I want whatever that person is having for dinner!

To be honest, I bought my Kitchenaid Mixer for myself before I even moved out of my parents house. I had visions of great parties and making hors d’ vours for my dinner guests and the whole nine yards. Truth be told, I became more wrapped up in paying the mortgage than having lavish parties and rarely even used it. Once I finally settled in to living on my own after about a year or so, that is when I truly discovered the true joy of having a kitchenaid stand mixer! Before I knew it I was making cinnamon rolls on the weekends and all sorts of bread during the week. I had a bread maker I’d been using to make bread and I thought I was actually doing something great. Let me tell you, there is no comparison to bread made in a bread maker and bread mixed in a Kitchenaid Mixer and then baked in a real oven!

Before I knew it, I was hooked. I started making homemade pie crusts and even whipping meringue to dollop on top! Then my Mom bought me some accessories to use it as a juicer, a meat grinder and even a sausage stuffer. This is something I never even dreamed I’d enjoy, but let me tell you, if you have never made your own sausage, or never had someone else’s homemade sausage then you may not even know what sausage is supposed to taste like! I know I didn’t.

Looking back on that first year I simply cannot believe I let my Kitchen Aid mixer sit there and collect dust. Once I started using it, it became my right hand and I was able to make things I never could dream of without it. The thing is built like a tank and I’m quite certain I’ll be handing this mixer down to my daughter some day, and I wouldn’t doubt it lasts long enough for her to hand it down as well. The Kitchen Aid Mixer is a classic design that never goes out of style, and its really just a scaled down version of the huge ones they use in bakeries every single day 8-10 hours a day. It can’t get much more rugged. A KitchenAid Mixer may cost a little bit more initially, but it is well worth the money, and nothing else could cut through a stiff dough like a KitchenAid. The universal attachment to add on accessories makes an great mixer even better. If you don’t already own a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, then I’m not sure what are waiting for honestly. KitchenAid Stand Mixers come in a variety of colors now too so you can really make that beauty pop on your counter top if you are so inclined. I bought the professional because I liked the bigger bowl and the ability to raise and lower it to get the bowl off easier, but it was a little bit more expensive. They all come with the typical wire whip, dough hook and paddle which is all you really need. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my KitchenAid Mixer!

Emeril Cookware

I have no regrets at all for purchasing Emeril Cookware.  You definitely get more “Bam” for your buck.  I did a lot of research before I purchased Emeril Cookware and was really surprised at how reasonable Emeril’s Cookware is.

My Emeril Cookware has performed flawlessly.  It is strange because I never really had a new set of cookware.  I was always happy with the hand me downs from my mom, at least when they got too dirty I had no guilt or qualms about throwing the pan or pot away.  I did not realize what a difference nice and new cookware could make.  Boiling water and Heating things were so much quicker than with my previous non-stick set.   And everything cooked so evenly.

The coolest thing about the Emeril Cookware is that there are pour spouts on most of the pans and measurement marking on the sides.  Several of the lids have strainer built into them.  I have never seen this on other cookware and love how it makes cooking things like pasta so much more convenient.

You can put the pans in the oven if you need to as they stand up to 550 degress.  I have only done this once to keep something I had cooked hot and everything was fine.  The handle was hot of course.  However, whenever I cook it on the stove the handle never gets  hot and to me that is most important.  I mean how often do you really put your pans in the oven any way.

I did see a few couple of negative reviews about the pans melting.  It seems pretty silly to me though because the only way they melt is if you leave them on the stove empty for an extended period of time.  I mean I’m not the best cook, but I do know not to leave and empty pot or pan on the stove.  No cookware, including my Emeril Cookware could stand that kind of treatment.

The cookware comes with a lifetime warranty, and All-Clad will repair or replace defective cookware.  The Emeril Cookware warranty even cover missuse or damage.  So if for some reason you do leave your cookware on the stove unattended and mess up your cookware, you can replace it.

The one sort of negative thing about the Emeril Cookware is that like any stainless steal cookware it sis prone to waterspots if you wash it in the dishwasher.  I found that the spots are easily removed by using a soft cloth and some Bar Keeper’s Friend. That stuff is incredible. Get some after you purchase your Emerilware.  Get this cookware – it’s awesome. You won’t regret it.

The second reason that I Love my Senseo one cup coffee maker is that it is extremely inexpensive to brew a cup of coffee.   At first I was a little leery about having to use Senseo Coffee Pods.  I thought it was some kind of way to nickel and dime me and assumed that they would be expensive, or at least more expensive than buying a can of coffee.  That was why I was so happy to find that they cost around five dollars which comes out to be about .30 cents for each cup of coffee.  Senseo Coffee Pods come in all strengths (light, medium, dark roast) and a huge variety of flavors.  The coolest think is that they are super easy to find because they are sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Safeway and online at Amazon and lots of other places.

The final reason that I love my Philips Senseo Coffee Maker is that it is very reliable.  First of all Philips is a name that is known for making reliable products from TVs to Senseo Coffee Machines.  On top of that I have had my Senseo Coffee Machine for over seven years and only bought a new one because I gave an old Senseo Coffee Maker to my son who just moved out and it is still percolating.

My wife and I bought the BRAUN Tassimo Maker about a year ago as a wedding present to ourselves and we LOVED it (use it just about every single day). The BRAUN unit did have a few drawbacks that we would have liked to see changed: Unit too wide, too LOUD, no cord storage, and that annoying “puddle cup” for unused/overflow water, etc.

We had heard the BOSCH unit was much improved over the BRAUN so we bought it this past weekend. All I can say it BOSCH got it right. Although we were a bit disappointed neither unit has a timer, the fact that the beverages are brewed so quickly (even faster in the BOSCH) that the inconvenience of not having a timer is really not a big deal. Although the BOSCH is a tad bit deeper (longer) than the BRAUN…it has a slimmer width and looks much nicer on our kitchen counter. The new BOSCH is still very simple with a similar one-touch operation…but with the addition of an on/off. Our 11 favorite features of the new BOSCH Tassimo are:

1 – The noise has been reduced by at least 90%! Anyone who has had the BRAUN will notice a HUGE difference with the BOSCH!

2 – FASTER brewing time. Within a few seconds after turning the unit on and inserting a T-disc the unit will start brewing, unlike the BRAUN which sometimes took a minute or more for the “ready” light to come on.

3 – A more “solid/quality” look and feel. This is especially evident in the T-disc housing. It is a much heavier plastic and you don’t feel like you are going to break it whenever you clamp down on a T-disc.

4 – Longer “piercing unit” that narrows down toward the cup. This significantly cuts down on coffee splatter which was a real pain with the BRAUN.

5 – CORD STORAGE! With the BOSCH I only pull out the exact amount of electrical cord I need making for a much better fit on the counter than the old coil and hide cord on the BRAUN unit.

6 – NO MORE PUDDLE CUP! Although the storage tank on the BOSCH has slightly less capacity than on the BRAUN, we love not having to empty the “dribble cup” or soak up water in the base everytime the unit’s base cup was removed to fit tall mugs!

7 – The Cleaning Disc is conveniently stored away in the back of the unit, virtually eliminating the possibility of misplacing it.

8 – On/Off switch! This is a nice feature for turning the unit OFF when going out of town, etc. rather than having to unplug it!

9 – Filter Change Indicator. I like this feature, but I feel that having to buy filters every couple of months can get pricey. We use “double filtered” water (filtered from our fridge and then filtered in the unit). By doing this I am confident we can get twice as much usage out of the filters than those using unfiltered tap water…simply “reset” the filter indicator twice.

10 – The water reservoir on the BOSCH has a handy-dandy handle which makes it much easier to remove/fill/clean, etc.

11 – PRICE! Considering the improvements on the BOSCH, I would have gladly paid the same amount as we did for the BRAUN (retail $169)…but at just under $140 this until is well worth the price.

Tramontina Cookware

My Tramontina Cookware has changed my love of food to a love of cooking.  I love food, well dah who doesn’t, but I never wanted to take the time to cook. When I was twenty and out of the dorms and in my first apartment my parents bought me the Tramontina eight-piece cookware.  To be honest at first I was not super excited about my Tramontina Cookware.  Why should I? I never really cooked before!

The reason my parents bought me Tramontina cookware was because my mother loves the Food Netwok and most of the chiefs use Tramontina Cookware. I later found out when I was buying some Tramontina cookware for my friend’s wedding that it was rated Tramontina cookware was rated “best buy” in Cook’s Illustrated.  It is really reasonably priced and great quality.  My set was stainless steel and dishwasher safe.  I hate hand washing dishes so being able just to throw them in the dishwasher and go is priceless.  The Tramontina Cookware came with: One 8″ sauté , 10″ sauté pan, One 2-qt. covered saucepan, One 3-qt. covered saucepan, and  One 5-qt. covered Dutch oven.  They are all triple-layered from top to bottom which allows food to heat up and cook evenly; which is very important when cooking, especially when you are new to it.

My boyfriend’s friend was getting married and I was assigned to buy the present.  I thought that getting them some Tramontina Cookware, but an eight piece pot and pan set was a little bit more then I wanted to spend.  So I shopped around on line and found this beautiful Tramontina Casserole dish.  She really loves to cook so I thought it was a perfect gift.  She did too.   She goes on and on about how she uses it to slow cook homemade soups and stews, sauté vegetables, braise meats, roast poultry, and bake.  She says the Tramontina casserole cookware also works well for one-dish meals. It’s really beautiful too.  It is porcelain and comes in this really vibrant red color.   You literally can cook in it than leave it in the dish and put it on your kitchen table.
